Book #54. “The Hiding Place”

July 17, 2018September 3, 2018Leave a comment

When I was in grade 8, we took about six weeks to exclusively study the Holocaust in English. We read many novels, we watched movies like "Schindler's List," and we did lots of practical exercises to dramatize the Jewish experience during that dark period of history. At the end of it, we even had the … Continue reading Book #54. “The Hiding Place”

Book #56. “Educated”

Educated is a memoir written by Tara Westover about her own life growing up in the mountains of Idaho in a Mormon family headed by a survivalist father who rejected modern medicine and banned public school for his children. Tara grew up completely isolated, working in her father's junk yard and helping her mother, a … Continue reading Book #56. “Educated”

100 Books: The List

July 14, 2018September 3, 2018Leave a comment

100 Books sounds like a lot of books. It is a lot of books. When I first went to college after high school, I pursued a degree in English Literature (which I never finished). I love books & reading and I love the English language. During that time, I accumulated lots of books and I started … Continue reading 100 Books: The List

It’s such a treat to have Grampa and Nana from Ontario for Bethany’s birthday weekend 💕 she’s also being dedicated on Sunday, so we are extremely glad to have them around for these special moments (also LOLZ at Bethany’s weird headstand phase- I don’t know what the heck she’s doing but she does it all the time and it’s hilarious).
Throwback to teensy weensy Beth bug... I cannot believe it’s been a year almost! This weekend will just be fun birthday pics so here’s a little update on the past month: . This month has been all the magic, with a little craziness. My impeccable sleeper started playing instead of sleeping, our schedule has changed 20 times trying to remedy that... the exhaustion is real (for her and for me). I’m still not sure we’ve got it nailed, but it’s a little better. I suspect she’s in a huge development curve and her brain is just going 100 miles a minute. . This past week we had our first real sickness scare when she contracted herpetic eczema on her hand from a cold sore on her lip. She was miserable, fevered, and in pain for about a week, but praise God she has an amazing nurse practitioner that caught it right away and got us on some antivirals. Now she’s on the mend and we will definitely know what to look for in the future. Time will tell if she’ll have scars on her perfect little hand. 😔 . Other than that we’ve been soaking up every moment and enjoying the amazing growth and development she shows each day- we don’t take that for granted. I think my favourite thing is her little dancing whenever she hears music- we definitely have a little musician in the making. We love The Wiggles, Sesame Street, and Peppa Pig! Mommy is determined to add Disney to that list but she’s a little young yet 😉 Eating is still hit and miss and lately she seems annoyed by the hassle more than she enjoys the food 😂. She loves books and flipping pages and opening flaps. She seems to want to know how real things work and doesn’t find most of her toys that interesting for long. Walking has got to be right around the corner- she stands without help in the middle of the room and leans forward but can’t quite make her feet follow. All my rambling is to say: she’s amazing and wonderful and I am just so blessed to be her mama.
Happy Valentine’s Day to my love ❤️ and to our little love 💕 it is an amazing blessing to have both of you in my life.
E L E V E N M O N T H S ❄️ Hey friends! It’s been a hot minute, but my break from social media is already paying off hugely. I miss all of you, though! I’ve enjoyed catching up on your lives today for a few minutes. As promised, here’s our little monthly update on Bethany- the last one before she is one year old. Don’t talk to me. I can’t handle it. . Bethany (and Bun Bun, her favourite bunny) is doing amazingly. She is standing unassisted for short stints- if this is like her other milestones, she’ll just get up and walk one day with no warning- we can’t wait. She loves to read, give kisses, talk to herself in the mirror, and eat avocados and bananas. She says “Dada,” and can pick him out in photos. She also says “all done” when finished eating. She refuses to say “Mama” 🤨. Sleeping has become a little hit and miss during the day, but praise God our nights are still solid! Beth continues to be the happiest, most content little kid. Our favourite thing to do is put on loud music and dance- she sways and claps and bounces up and down. I cannot wait until I can teach her how to play music with me! What a joy she is and what a pleasure it’s been to be her mama for almost one full year. I love you, Little Miss.
I mean I knew this would be a pointless exercise. Top nine of 2018? Every single moment since Bethany was born. Sorry, everyone and everything else. She trumps it all. Best year ever. 🎉 I have a feeling it only gets better from here. Happy New Year!
This is what winter dreams are made of ☃️ It’s the most wonderful time of the year! ❄️❄️❄️
